NGOs/CSOs, Private Sectors and Government Consultation to Understand Potential Glacial Lake Outburst Floods Risks for Safeguarding Lives and Livelihoods

About Project

This project aims to conduct consultations with NGOs/CSOs, local government, private sectors and their organizations/networks in high mountain areas and whose work is already or expected to be (positively and/or negatively) affected by the glacial lakes, glacial lake outbursts, flooding, and other climate induced disasters to understand current impacts, implementation of prospective adaptive interventions and its sustainability.

  • Identify and prioritize the key issues and concerns of local government, NGOs/CSOs, private sectors and their organizations/networks about GLOF and of possible
    activities/interventions.
  • Identify the underlined impacts of climate change in various sectors including water resources, agriculture, forest and bio-diversity and overall livelihood of the communities.
  • Identify the key interventions likely to be introduced at communities or locations.
  • Identify the proposed areas of capacity development for the government at all levels, NGOs/CSOs, private sectors and their organizations/networks for project implementation and.
  • Identify the sustainability of the interventions after the phase out of the project/ program funding.

This project was implemented in partnership with the UNDP/ GCF Readiness Fund in the selected districts of Koshi, Gandaki, and Karnali River Basins.
