The consultation program on the “Kathmandu Valley Air Quality Management Action Plan 2083” was successfully conducted on May 25, 2026 with the objective of strengthening collective efforts to address the growing challenges of air pollution in Kathmandu Valley and to contribute toward ensuring citizens’ right to live in a clean and healthy environment. The program was jointly organized by the Department of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Environment and the Youth Alliance for Environment, in partnership with Save the Children, with support from SIDA.
The consultation brought together more than 80 participants representing a wide range of stakeholders, including government ministries and agencies, local governments, academic institutions, development partners, civil society organizations, researchers, environmental experts, media professionals, youth representatives, and children. The diverse participation created a valuable platform for multi-stakeholder dialogue and collaboration on one of the most pressing environmental and public health concerns facing Kathmandu Valley.
During the program, participants actively engaged in discussions on the draft “Kathmandu Valley Air Quality Management Action Plan 2083,” sharing their experiences, technical insights, recommendations, and policy-level perspectives. The discussions highlighted the need for stronger inter-agency coordination, evidence-based policymaking, effective implementation mechanisms, inclusivity and increased public awareness to tackle the worsening air pollution situation in the Valley.
The consultation also emphasized the importance of inclusive participation, particularly the meaningful engagement of youth and children, in air quality management. Participants stressed that air pollution is not only an environmental issue but also a growing public health and development challenge that requires coordinated and long-term action from all sectors and levels of government.
The consultation program served as an important platform to collect feedback, suggestions, and recommendations on the draft action plan, contributing to making it more practical, inclusive, and implementation-oriented.
