About the Project
The main objective of the project was to calculate greenhouse gas emissions from various forest-related activities in Nepal, including forest fires, grazing, fuelwood collection, timber harvesting, and removals. The project also aimed to prepare Nepal’s revised Forest Reference Level (FRL) by applying field-based data, analytical models, and GIS/remote sensing tools across different eco-regions of the country.
Key Activities:
-
Calculate emissions from forest fires across different eco-regions of Nepal
-
Assess emissions resulting from grazing in multiple eco-regions
-
Calculate emissions from fuelwood collection
-
Estimate emissions from timber harvesting and removals under sustainable forest management and forest restoration
-
Prepare Nepal’s revised Forest Reference Level (FRL)
-
Conduct field data collection for all activities across various eco-regions, including laboratory analysis and emission calculations
-
Apply modeling tools and GIS/remote sensing techniques for emission estimation
