About the Project
The project focused on identifying, exploring, and assessing the impacts of existing and planned infrastructure on snow leopard habitats across Nepal. Covering the Eastern, Central, and Western Himalayan Complexes—from Taplejung in the east to Darchula in the west—the assessment aimed to understand how linear and other infrastructure developments influence snow leopard conservation and habitat connectivity.
Key Activities:
-
Identify, explore, and list existing infrastructures within snow leopard habitats in Nepal
-
Identify, explore, and list planned future infrastructures across the same regions
-
Assess the impacts of current and proposed infrastructures on snow leopard habitats
-
Map the extent and distribution of these impacts across the Himalayan complexes
-
Develop scenario plans for under-construction and planned linear infrastructures and their potential threats to snow leopard conservation
-
Provide prioritized recommendations for preventing and mitigating negative infrastructure impacts, including indicative resource requirements
-
Prepare a suggestive plan outlining measures to be applied during pre-construction, construction, and post-construction phases for each infrastructure type
