About the Project
This project is envisioned to provide a platform for enhanced engagement with the Government of Nepal—particularly the Ministry of Forests and Environment, the national focal ministry for climate change, along with other relevant sectoral ministries. The initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of Nepal’s delegates who will represent the country at COP 29 of the UNFCCC, equipping them to effectively raise and advance Nepal’s climate change priorities at the global stage.
The main objective of the project is to build the capacity of climate negotiators with a focus on gender and social inclusion, foster improved coordination among and between party delegates, and ensure that negotiation outcomes are integrated into national policies and frameworks. The project seeks to align with and uphold the objectives of the Paris Agreement and the Glasgow Climate Pact in the areas of mitigation, adaptation, and climate finance.
Key activities for this trimester include:
-
Capacity-building training on COP29’s pertinent agendas, including Global Stocktake, loss and damage finance, climate financing, Global Goal on Adaptation, carbon trade under Article 6, and issues under adaptation and mitigation.
-
Pre-COP provincial and national consultation workshops.
-
Preparation of draft COP position papers and policy briefs.
-
Coordination of COP travel logistics and provision of daily briefings/updates during COP.
-
Post-COP sharing workshop.
This project is being implemented in partnership with Practical Action Nepal and is funded by the UK Government. The implementation period is from August 16, 2024, to March 31, 2025.
