E-Cooking Distribution and Orientation Program under SAINO Project
Under the SAINO Project, “Revitalizing Nature-Culture Relationship and Recollection of Indigenous People in the Annapurna Area of Nepal, a total of 500 e-cooking devices were distributed, accompanied by a comprehensive orientation program. The initiative was jointly implemented by NEFIN and Youth Alliance for Environment (YAE), with support from GEF-7, the Inclusive Conservation Initiative, and IUCN.
The program aimed to promote clean, efficient, and sustainable cooking technologies among Indigenous and rural communities, helping to reduce dependency on traditional biomass fuels and improve both household health and environmental outcomes.
A practical, hands-on training session was conducted to ensure safe use and long-term adoption of the e-cooking devices. Participants were guided through step-by-step demonstrations on operating induction cooktops, learning safety protocols and integration tips for daily cooking routines. This training was particularly crucial for first-time users of electric appliances.
In addition to e-cooking devices, Improved Cook Stoves (ICS) were also distributed to further encourage clean energy adoption and reduce indoor air pollution. The campaign focused on improving household energy efficiency, promoting climate-resilient cooking, and advancing health-friendly practices in ten target villages across Manang, Mustang, Kaski, and Lamjung districts.
This initiative marks a significant step toward enhancing energy justice, environmental sustainability, and the well-being of Indigenous and local communities in the Annapurna region.
